'Dad' - by David Wilding
Dad
by David Wilding (1st January 2002)
It's me
And that's my little one right there!
Really? Mine? Where'd he come from then?
Oh yeah!
What I do? What I say?
I haven't got a clue - better learn quick
Back to school
No teacher here though - at least, none qualified
My teacher is so small
He can't speak, can't tell me Yes or No
Can't say where I'm wrong
No advice to do better
And should I make notes? Is there an exam?
A certificate at the end of the course?
Well ... no
So what's it for? What's it all about?
Him!
What else do you need?
What do you want?
Some reward? Some money? A prize?
A gold medal with flowers and a pretty kiss?
Well,
Yes and No
But yes ... but no
Oh, I don't know
What IS it all about then?
Love!
And he needs it more than anything
You're his DAD, his father!
You brought him to this world
Help him through it, guide him
Keep him straight and narrow
Show him right and wrong
Help his mistakes
Most of all
Show him your love
Show affection
Give him all you got
'Cos he needs it
He deserves it
Got to have it
And he's YOURS!
